In 2011, after the global Bitcoin market reached $1 billion and achieved parity with the dollar, Brazil became the first country in Latin America to have a dedicated platform for the sector: the website Mercado Bitcoin. At the beginning of 2013, the site faced administrative issues, and Leandro Cesar sold it to entrepreneurs Rodrigo Batista and Gustavo Chamati, who reimbursed all affected customers and invested in technology, security, and customer service. With this change in management, the platform formally became a company in Brazil and began mediating the buying and selling of Litecoin, in addition to Bitcoin.
